Do things feel off but you’ve let them become your new normal? Tired of being told you just need to relax more? Feel guilty that you have no energy to keep up with your kids? Surrounded by people but feel alone? Have an autoimmune disease but feel like your autoimmune disease might have you? Think you might be losing it?
Fatigued all the time, in pain and not much fun to be around. Depressed. Anxious. Scared. Why is this happening? I totally get it. I was YOU. You are not alone and you can get your groove back!
Hi! I’m Deana Gunn and I am a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. I’m here to help you discover how to take your power back! There really is more to life. You don’t have to feel crappy. You do not have to feel like you can’t commit to anything because you don’t know how you will feel on any given day.
In my previous life, I was a rat in the race on Wall Street. I decided to take some time off and right after my youngest child was born seven years ago, I started to experience some really weird symptoms—vertigo, numbness in my limbs, tremors and heart palpations. TERRIFYING! I was always tired. I was anxious and depressed. Bottom line, I was not fun to be around.
I went from doctor to doctor without an explanation. Mostly, I was told to relax. “You’re doing too much or you’re probably just exhausted from having kids”. “And then it was always the same…they’d grab their pads and want to write me a prescription for Xanax. INFURIATING! And no thank-you.
Isn’t it SO maddening when you don’t have answers and feel like nobody is really listening? I was beginning to think I was crazy! And then a doctor that practiced Integrative Medicine changed my life. See I wasn’t crazy. Turns out I had Celiac Disease. The ‘healthy food’ I was eating (whole wheat this or that fad) was killing me. It’s hard to imagine, that a little protein called gluten can cause a ton of issues for anyone with an autoimmune disease.
I was forced to re-examine my previous ideas about food.
WHAT? No bagels? No more pizza Fridays?
How will I go to a BBQ or eat out?
To say it was overwhelming at first is an understatement! But as I changed my diet, my life began to change. I started to think differently and more clearly. I felt happier. My symptoms cleared up and over the next several years I regained my health. I soon became fascinated with how food effects the body and people differently. I dove in and learned everything I could about autoimmunity. Through the help of my doctor and self-experimentation, I learned I had other food sensitivities, hormonal imbalances and adrenal fatigue—all which are very common in autoimmunity.
Changes in my food and how I live made huge changes in my life and I’m passionate about sharing this dirty little secret with others. I’m still amazed at the role food plays in our feelings, energy and overall well being!
